Mayfield, Juel Dean

Juel Dean Mayfield, 84, of Jackson passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 26, 1928, in Scopus, MO, son of Ernest B. and Della Limbaugh Mayfield. He and Dorothy L. Friedrich were married February 12, 1949 in Piggott, AR.

Juel attended Marble Hill High School and was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. In addition to cattle farming, he worked on the river for 30 years, retiring as Chief Engineer from Valley Line in 1990. He was a former leader of Brookside 4-H Club, and was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson since 1949. He was a member of the Charolais Association, American Angus Association, Holstein Association USA, and the Excelsior Lodge #441 in Jackson, where he received a 50 year pin in May of 2012.

Loving survivors include his wife of 63 years; five children, Joe Daniel and wife, Lou Ann Mayfield of Wilmington, NC, Deborah Broshuis and husband, John of Leopold, MO, David and wife, Jimmie Mayfield of Irving, TX, Dennis and wife, Annie Mayfield of Cheyenne, WY, Doug and wife, Mary Mayfield of Jackson; eight grandchildren; four great-grandsons; two step great-grandsons; a brother, Fred Mayfield; two sisters, Marge James and JoAnn Hahs.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, McGlennon, Eugene, George D. and Larry Mayfield, and a sister, Azilea Rhodes.

Friends may call Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 4-8 PM at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to Emanuel United Church of Christ General Fund.
