Mercier, Virginia "Tinny" (nee Hough)
Fredericktown, Mo. -- Virginia 'Tinny" Mercier died January 8, 2006, at the age of 92 years in Fredericktown. Virginia Hough Mercier was born Dec. 17, 1913, to Riley and Alma Hough. She moved to Fredericktown as an infant and lived there her entire life.
On Dec. 25, 1931, she was married to L.A. 'Bud' Mercier. He preceded her in death in 1966. Mrs. Mercier was also preceded in death by her parents and her son, A.C. 'Bud' Mercier.
Virginia is survived by her brother, Col. P.C. Hough (Ret.) and his wife, Nancy, of Honolulu, Hawaii; a daughter, Marcia Mercier Wagner of Cape Girardeau and a daughter-in-law, Jane Mercier of Harlingen, Texas.
Mrs. Mercier has four granddaughters, Michelle Wagner of Cape Girardeau, Deborah Stoner and husband, Pat, of Conway, Ark, Marcia MacCash and husband, Randy, of Rolla, Mo. and Donna Davis and husband, Mike, of Broomfield, Colo.
She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Samantha and Drew Stoner, Logan and Thomas MacCash and Natalie and Matthew Davis.
In 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Mercier began operating the Mercier Theatre, which became a prominent Fredericktown landmark. In later years, the HI-Y Drive-in Theater was opened.
Mrs. Mercier was a life time member of the United Methodist Church in Fredericktown, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and participated in numerous church projects.
She attended the Fredericktown schools and Christian College in Columbia, Mo., now Columbia College.
Among her many community activities were Friday Club, co-owner of the Flower Box, D.A.R. and scouting. For many years she was involved with the Azalea Prince and Princess Contest.
Tinny will be missed by her loving relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Follis and Sons Funeral Home in Fredericktown, Mo.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Fredericktown. Interment will be at the Christian Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Fredericktown United Methodist Church, Hospice Inc. or the American Cancer Society.
