Meyers, Jesse

Jesse Meyers, 78 years old and a Union soldier of the civil war, died at his home four miles south of Highland last Thursday, September 15 (1926). He had lived pratically all his life on a farm in the community where he died.

He was married to Nancy C. Murray and eight children were born to them, six of whom survive. The children are Mrs. Shrum of Perry County, Mrs. Dora Garner of Farmington, Mrs. Joseph H. Barks of Perry County, Mrs. Wm. Willard of Oak Ridge; Mrs. Clarence Shrum, who was living with her father at the time of his death, and Mrs. Ray Blaylock of Perryville. He also leaves 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one brother and a half sister, of Libertyville, Mo.

The funeral was from his residence to the Crossroads M. E. Church. Friday, September 17, services being conducted by Rev. Griffin of Patton. Burial took place in the Crossroads Cemetery.

Mr. Meyers enlisted in Company G. 47th Missouri Infantry, on August 15, 1864, and was honorably discharged March 29, 1865.

Jesse Meyers was widley known and held in high esteem by all. He was a leading member of the M. E. Church and as such remained a faithful Christian all his life.
