Meyr, Gilbert "Gib" A.

Gilbert "Gib" A. Meyr, 88, of New Wells, Mo., passed away Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 18, 1916, in New Wells, son of Gustav and Pauline Perr Meyr. He and Florence Hutteger were married April 28, 1940, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.

Loving survivors include his wife Florence of 64 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Delvin and Dorothy Meyr of Cape Girardeau, Ray and Julie Meyr of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Mike Longman of Jackson; nine grandchildren, Darrin Meyr and wife Stacy of Jackson, Daniel Meyr and wife Tina of St. Louis, DeAnn Hein and husband Gregg of Billings, Mont., Dwight Meyr and wife Diane of St. Louis, David Meyr and wife Trina of Meridian, Miss., Sherri Palmer of Perryville, Mo., Brad Meyr and wife Paula of Jackson, Tony Longman of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Kala Longman of Jackson; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 15 brothers and sisters.

Gib was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he formerly served as a Sunday school teacher, elder, trustee and sang in the choir. He was also active in the Lutheran Layman's League. He was a lifelong farmer in the New Wells community and was a former board member of the Missouri Farm Bureau.

Friends may call today, Jan. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and Monday, Jan. 3, after 9 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.

Funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Walter Patzwitz officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Memorial Fund, Lutheran World Relief or Saxony Lutheran High School.
