Meyr, Janice Lynn (nee Steffens)

Janice Lynn Meyr, 52, of New Wells passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at her home.

She was born Dec. 7, 1951, in Perry County, Mo., daughter of Willard and Amanda Detjen Steffens. She and Ron Meyr were married Jan. 23, 1971, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg. They would have celebrated 33 years of marriage next week.

Janice was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg. She and Ron were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. Janice was active in LWML, taught Sunday school 32 years, and had been a youth group leader.

She was previously employed at Steffens Orchard in Altenburg, Riverside Lumber and Fruitland Dressed Meat. She had worked at the Pocahontas Post Office the past five years, until stricken by her illness.

The many hobbies she enjoyed included hiking, photography, reading and gardening, but her beloved family was her true joy.

Loving survivors include her husband; five children, Brad Meyr and wife Kristi of New Wells, Penny Eatherton and husband Benjamin of Pocahontas, Josh Meyr of St. Louis, Jena Mabry and husband Branson of Altenburg, Paula Niedbalski and husband Scott of New Wells; five grandchildren, Chelsea and Ashlee Eatherton, Cody Schoenebeck, Amanda Mabry and Bryn Meyr.

She is also survived by her mother of Altenburg; three siblings, Vickie Goetz of Chaffee, Mo., Christine Schlichting of Altenburg and James Steffens of Perryville, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her father, and a nephew, Steven Goetz.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and Thursday after 9 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Walter Patzwitz officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ryan and Kevin Goetz, Brian Schlichting, Travis Steffens, Tim Schaupert and Matt Richter.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Tuition Fund, or the charity of your choice.
