Meyr, Norma H. (nee Grebing)

Norma H. Meyr, age 82, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 8, between 4 and 8 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and Monday, Dec. 9, after 9 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.

The funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the church, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Walter Patzwitz will officiate.

Norma was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Frohna, Mo., daughter of Otto and Amanda Feiste Grebing. She and Elton A. Meyr were married Oct. 11, 1942, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna. Elton survives.

Other loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Janice Meyr of New Wells; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Lynn Ludwig of Shawneetown; brother, Clarence Grebing of Frohna; sister, Frieda Reisenbichler of New Wells; and half sister, Norma Snell of Cape Girardeau.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Bradley Meyr and wife Kristi of New Wells; Joshua Meyr of St. Louis; Penny Eatherton and husband Ben of Pocahontas; Jena Mabry and husband Branson of Altenburg, Mo.; Paula Meyr of Cape Girardeau; Joleta and Cassie Ludwig of Shawneetown; and five great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Ashlee Eatherton, Cody Schoenebeck, Amanda Mabry and Bryn Meyr.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Meyr; an infant twin sister, Wilma; and a half sister, Gertrude Wachter.

Raised in Frohna, Norma was confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church on March 25, 1934. She and Elton lived and farmed in New Wells all their married lives. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past October.

Norma was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. She participated in the adult choir, Fellowship Club, formerly taught Sunday school, and especially enjoyed quilting with the Ladies Aid. The Meyrs were also members of the Roll-Aways Square Dance Club. She had worked 10 years at the former Food Horizon's in Cape Girardeau.

Her favorite pastimes were gardening and baking coffeecake.
