Miller, Freda Mildred

GLENALLEN, Mo. -- Mildred G. Miller, 82, of Glenallen passed away on Nov. 12, 2006, of complications from a recent stroke.

She was born June 13, 1924, in the Hog Creek community, east of Marble Hill, to Ray P. and Bernice Ollie Berry Grindstaff.

Her education began at Hog Creek School and she later graduated in 1942 from Lutesville High School. On Oct. 28, 1943, she wed T.J. Miller at Jackson, Mo. The couple celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past month.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller have been proprietors of M&G Gas Co. of Glenallen since 1962. From 1950 to 1985 they owned and operated Miller's Store at Grassy, Mo. Mrs. Miller served as postmaster for the Grassy post office from 1951 until its closing in 1991, at which time she retired from the Postal Service.

Upon her baptism July 4, 1941, she became a member of First Baptist Church of Marble Hill.

Organizational memberships included Victory Chapter no. 431 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a past Worthy Matron; General Federated Women's Club of Marble Hill; Missouri LP Gas Association, having served as District Director; Rebekah Lodge of Marble Hill.

Survivors include her husband, T.J. Miller of Glenallen; children, Judy Rhodes (Carl) of Marble Hill, Richard Alan Miller (Edna) of Cherokee Pass, Elizabeth Ann Durham (Terry) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Myra Underwood (Rick) of Marble Hill; siblings, Roy R. (Margie) Grindstaff of McComb, Ill., Mary B. Wilhoit of Columbia, Mo., Lee (Irene) Grindstaff of Cincinatti, Ohio; grandchildren, Sean Jones, Debbie Meek, Stacey Long, Tamara Miles, Kerri Guinn, Justin Bacon, Nick Underwood and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Miller was a caring, loving wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a philanthropist and loyal friend to many people. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hutchings Funeral Chapel, Marble Hill, where Eastern Star services will be held at 6:30 p.m. and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Marble Hill, with a funeral service immediately following.

Burial will be at Baker Cemetery.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to charity, or the organization or church of their choice.
