Moonier, Alvin Joseph

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Alvin J. Moonier, 86, of Edwardsville, Illinois, formerly of Perryville, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Edwardsville. Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, with the Rev. Rich Wehrmeyer as celebrant. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery in Perryville.

A funeral will be held Friday, January 30, 2015 for 86-year-old Alvin Joseph Moonier who died at 9:30 pm, Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Edwardsville.

He was born in Perryville on February 23, 1928, the son of the late Leo James and Berthal (Pitts) Moonier.

He married Virginia Baer on April 22, 1950 in Perryville. She survives.

He is survived by three children, Sharon (Jeff) Campbell of Godfrey, Randy (Esther) Moonier of Godfrey, and Ken (Janel) Moonier of Crystal City; four grandchildren, Brooke, Derrick, Brandon, and Jerris Moonier; five great grandchildren, Jersey and Brynn, Eliza, and Tate and Ellie Jo Moonier; two sisters, Mary Cottner of Red Bud, Frances Church of Perryville, and one brother, James Moonier of Perryville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Pannier and Clara Mitchell; and one brother, Vernon Moonier.

Alvin worked as a glass cutter for Pittsburg Plate Glass in Crystal City. He served in the US Army during WWII in Panama and was a member of the American Legion Post 354 in Godfrey, Illinois. Alvin enjoyed country music, bowling, camping, fishing, boating, and gardening. Alvin, along with his wife, Virginia, played in the Country Singers Band in Florida.

Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.

Funeral Mass will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 30, 2015 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Perryville. The Rev. Rich Wehrmeyer, CM will officiate.

Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery in Perryville.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey is in charge of arrangements.
