Murray, Delmar Ray

Delmar Ray Murray, 89, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at his home.

He was born Oct. 20, 1920. in Yount, Mo., the son of Everett and Clara Yamnitz Murray.

He and Helen Cummings were married July 1, 1946, in Piggott, Ark.

Delmar was a veteran of World War II, having served as a gunner's mate first class in the U.S. Navy. He was inducted May 23, 1942, and honorably discharged Dec. 23, 1945. While in the Navy he received the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four battle stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Delmar worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau and later for Ford Groves in Cape Girardeau in the parts department, retiring in 1981.

Loving survivors include his wife of 63 years; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Murray of Hillsboro, Mo.; two grandsons, Josh (Shannon) Murray and Matt (Cathy) Murray, all of Hillsboro; two granddaughters, Theresa Hasty of De Soto, Mo., and Angie (David) Taylor of Cedar Hills, Mo. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Vera Duvall of Roscoe, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Mike Murray, on June 17, 2009.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Rhodes officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to Iona Baptist Church in Oriole.
