Myers, Verna (nee Neislein)

Verna Myers, 88, of Jackson passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 29, 1920, in Old Appleton, Mo., daughter of Andrew and Hannah Oehl Neislein. She and Paul D. "Shorty" Myers were married Oct. 5, 1936, in Longtown, Mo. He passed away April 1, 1977.

Verna had worked at the former Lowenbaum Dress Factory and retired from Thorngate Ltd. in Cape Girardeau in 1990. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed quilting and volunteered in the sewing room at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Janet (Jerry) Schuette of Jackson; three grandchildren, Dennis (Patty) Schuette of Shawneetown, Mo., Janice (Patrick) Jefferies of Arnold, Mo., Teresa (Robert) Camp of Deer Park, Texas; three sisters, Opal Prass of Seminole, Fla., Bernice Pingel of St. Charles, Mo., Mildred Melrose of Sikeston, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Elliott Neislein, and a sister, Juanita Merinbaum.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

The family suggests memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Radio Broadcast or Southeast Hospice.
