Ernest T. Niswonger, Masonic Leader, Dies

Ernest T. Niswonger, 68 years old, 513 North Fountain, died early this morning at his home. He was a retired employee of the Marquette Cement Co. where he worked from 1924 to 1958.

He was an active member of Masonic circles and organizations. He was a member of St. Mark's Lodge 93 AF & AM of which he was past master and was grand lecturer of the 49th District. He also was in charge of installations for other lodges in the district.

Other Masonic organizations he was active in were: Wilson Chapter, 75 Royal Arch Masons, Cape Girardeau Commandery 55. Knights Templar, Cape Council 20 Royal and Select Masters, Capaha Scottish Rite Club. St. Louis Consistery, Knights of York Cross Honour, Order of High Priesthood, Order of Silver Trowel, Sword of Bunker Hill, and St. Mark's Chapter 167 Order of Eastern Star. He also was a member of the Maple Avenue Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens Club.

Mr. Niswonger was born August 18, 1899 at Millersville. He married the former Miss Clara Haupt on August 24, 1921, at Jackson. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Arnell Godwin, Jackson, Mrs. Edward Grebing, Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Mrs. Anne Statler, Cape Girardeau, Mrs. Bertha Welker, Milton-Freewater, Oregon; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The body is at the Brinkopf-Howell Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 tonight. Masonic rites will be conducted there Friday night at 7:30.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Maple Avenue Methodist Church with the pastor, The Rev. Theodore Propst, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
