Oehl, Marlen
Marlen Oehl, 89, of Oak Ridge passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 24, 1920, in Friedheim to Henry and Docilla Sauer Oehl. He and Lorene Rose were married Aug. 17, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville.
Marlen was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church at Friedheim. He was a World War II veteran, serving from February 1945 to July 1946. His decorations include the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.
Marlen was a prominent farmer and cattleman in the Oak Ridge and Gordonville area.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served on the stewardship committee and the board of education. He was also an elder and was an avid participant in the former men's church dart ball league.
He served on the local ASC committee for twenty years and was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.
Marlen was very proud of his family and took every opportunity to enjoy time with them.
Loving survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lorene, of Oak Ridge; a son, Doyle (Jane) Oehl of Oak Ridge; two daughters, Dr. Darlene (Alan) Jones of St. Charles, Mo., and Loretta (Ray) Falkner of La Jolla, Calif.; three grandchildren, John and Maria Oehl of Jackson and Allyson Jones of St. Charles, Mo.
Also surviving is a brother, Richard (June) Oehl of Friedheim; a sister-in law, Dorothy Oehl of Cape Girardeau; and a brother-in-law, Bill Bogenpohl of Oak Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wilma Bogenpohl and Gertrude Rohde; a brother, Howard Oehl; a nephew, Leonard Bogenpohl; a niece, Jean Ann Ward; and a great-nephew, Josh Oehl.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating.
Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with full military honors.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Southeast Hospice, Missouri Veterans Home or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
