Ronald Penrod, 60, of Millersville passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Feb. 6, 1953, in Columbia, Mo., to Erlis J. and Virginia L. Macke Penrod. He and Betty A. Brink Grootens were married July 10, 1982, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

Ronald was a 1972 graduate of Jackson High School. He then attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. He was a self-employed commercial electrician.

Ronald was a member of Elks Lodge No. 639 in Cape Girardeau. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed the love and friendship of many canine friends through the years. He also liked working on his farm, kayaking, scuba diving, golfing and watching football.

Loving survivors include his wife of 31 years, Betty of Millersville; a stepson, Matthew Grootens and his son, Zedekiah, both of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Donna (Randy) Speck of Dexter, Mo., and Julie Oliver of Jackson; a brother-in-law, Bill Brink of Franklin, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Bob) Reinold of Quincy, Ill., and Mary (Dennis) Waterkotte of Anaheim, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John W. Penrod and Steven B. Stone.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until time of service Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An Elks service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the charity or church of your choice.
