Peters, Charles Willis

Charles Willis Peters, 68, of Burfordville passed away Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at his home.

He was born June 25, 1936, in Burfordville, son of Willie and Lena Runnels Peters. He and Doris Reitzel were married June 8, 1958, in Burfordville.

Charles attended the former Burfordville Elementary School, was a 1955 graduate of Jackson High School and a 1957 graduate of the former Cape Business College.

He enjoyed farming and did so his entire life while working as a bookkeeper for Farm Bureau in Advance, Mo., a school bus driver for Jackson schools, a representative for Walters Buildings, McCombs Funeral Home and the Southeast Missourian's Targeted Publications, retiring in 2001.

The Peterses had been members of First General Baptist Church in Jackson since 1986. Charles was a deacon, a former member of the building committee and a former church board member. He was also a former member of the Gideons International.

He was a current member of the Camp Allen board and the Columbia Mutual Insurance Board.

Loving survivors include his beloved wife, Doris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Glenn Woeltje and children Wyatt and Rachel of Jackson, Tenn., Stephanie and Kevin Rhodes and son Braden of Burfordville; brother and sister-in-law Carl and Marcella Peters of Marble Hill, Mo.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Barabara Reitzel of Whitewater; three nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Kevin and Luther Rhodes officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the First General Baptist Church Building Fund, Gideons International or Southeast Hospice.
