Petzold, Floyd W.

Petzold, Floyd W.

Floyd W. Petzoldt, 83, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014, at his home in Oak Ridge, Mo.

He was born October 14, 1930, in Frohna, Mo., to Bernhardt C. and Hilda M. Kain Petzoldt. He attended grade school in Frohna and was a graduate of the former Altenburg High School.

He was an honorably discharged corporal of the U.S. Army, serving from February 20, 1952 to January 26, 1954, during the Korean War. He was stationed many months in Iwo Jima, Japan, primarily working in supplies.

Upon returning home, Floyd began a career as an electrician. He became a member of the IBEW in St. Louis, and worked all over Southeast Missouri. His family fondly remembers him for his love and dedication to hard work, and getting the job done right.

Floyd also enjoyed woodworking and was happy to help his friends tackle just about any repair on their home. As a longtime member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, he served on multiple committees and was a former trustee. He was always happy to lend a hand around the church too; from wiring to building, he’d tackle it all.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Susan (Chester) Reed of Oak Ridge and Cindy Craig of Columbia, Tenn.; twelve grandchildren, Nick Reed, Adam (Cassie) Reed, Ashley (Michael) Irey, Alison Duran, Katie and Andrew Reed, Claudia, Anna, and William Craig, Jordan (Joe) Randol, Joshua and Kathryn McWilson; and former son-in-law, Michael (Kerri) McWilson and son Levi of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen McWilson, August 13, 2000; three siblings, Wilma C. Boren, Helen Synatschk, Waldemar Petzoldt; and his parents.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 26, 2014, from 4 to 7 PM, at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau; and Wednesday, August 27, from 9:30 AM to service time, at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be Wednesday, at 11 AM, at the church, with the Rev. Tony Kobak and Vicar Andrew Cave officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Hanover Lutheran Building Fund or St. Francis Hospice.
