Proffer, Betty Jean

Betty Jean Proffer, 73, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at Monticello House.

She was born Feb. 25, 1937, at Crump, daughter of Otis and Mary Ervin Proffer.

Betty was a member of First General Baptist Church in Jackson. She worked at the former International Shoe factory in Jackson from 1959 until 1988, and at LeeRowan in Jackson from 1988 until her retirement in 2002. After retirement, she was a cook at Jackson Middle School. She enjoyed reading and crocheting baby caps for the Southeast Hospital nursery.

Loving survivors include six brothers, Billy (Loretta) Proffer, Bob (Dean) Proffer, Ben (Helen) Proffer, Bernard (Alice) Proffer, Bryan (Barbara) Proffer, all of Jackson, and Bradley (Judy) Proffer of Cameron, Mo.; three sisters, Barbara Proffer, Brenda Proffer, all of Jackson, and Diane (Joel) Erickson of Spanish Fork, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Mark Proffer, Kim Proffer and the Rev. Luther Rhodes officiating. Pallbearers will be J. Stertz, Stetson Proffer, Rodney Proffer, Dallas Proffer, Greg Proffer and Matthew Proffer. Junior pallbearers will be Max and Alex Philipps, Colton, Auston and Adam Proffer.

Interment will be in Proffer Cemetery in Crump.

Memorials may be made to Proffer Cemetery or First General Baptist Church in Jackson.
