Propst, Florence "Louise" (nee Nelson)

Florence "Louise" Propst, age 72, passed away Friday, March 1, 2002, at the Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call today between 4 and 8 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Cape.

Funeral service will be Monday, March 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment in Snyder Cemetery near Millersville. Dr. Derek Staples will officiate.

Louise was born May 7, 1929, at Millersville, the daughter of the late Frederick Leland and Mary Verneta Whitbread Nelson. She and Edward B. Propst were married Jan. 30, 1949, at Millersville. He passed away Dec. 10, 2001. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Loving survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Kevin L. and Kim Propst, and Terry L. Propst, all of Nashville, Tenn., and Edward J. Propst of St. Louis; a foster daughter, Rosemary McCallister of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Jane Louise Budnick, Grayson Propst and Jack Propst; one great-grandchild, Lauren Budnick; and a foster grandchild, Jeff Counts.

Louise attended grade school at Millersville and graduated from Jackson High School. From 1951-1964, she and Ed resided in Charleston. They were former members of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, and she was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in Charleston. Upon moving to Cape in 1964, they became members of Lynwood Baptist Church. Louise was faithful and active in both churches.

She worked for the former Cape State Bank, worked as secretary to the area director of the American Cancer Society, and was a secretary for the Missouri State Probation and Parole Office in Cape Girardeau, retiring from there in the early 1990s.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Lynwood Baptist Library Fund.
