Reed, Harold Vernon

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Harold Vernon Reed, 77, of Leopold passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 15, 1932, in Commerce, Mo., son of Thomas Edward and Blanche Smithson Reed. He and Alta Pearl Ramsey Stroder were married Feb. 19, 2000, at Whitewater.

Reed was a disabled veteran, having served in the Navy during the Korean conflict and later in the Air Force.

For many years he was self-employed as a small engine repairman.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Travis Reed of Colorado Springs, Colo., Justin Reed of Lemoore, Calif.; two stepsons, DeWayne and Bryan Stroder of Leopold; two brothers, Bill Reed of Colorado Springs, Gene Reed of East Highland, Calif.; a sister, Lois Corbitt of O'Fallon, Ill.; a granddaughter; five stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

A brother and sister preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, Mo.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Poole officiating. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, Mo., with military honors conducted.
