Reynolds, Mary Helen (nee Birk)

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Mary Helen Reynolds, 76, of Sikeston died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born July 27, 1929, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Theodore Charles and Addie Isabelle Bennett Birk. She and Howard Lee Reynolds were married June 10, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo., by the Rev. Alton F. Wedel.

Mrs. Reynolds was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Sikeston, and served faithfully on the church's Altar Guild, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and Board of Evangelism, during more than 50 years of membership.

She graduated from Jackson High School in 1947, served a a Cub Scout den mother eight years, was an avid supporter of Boy Scouts of America, and a volunteer at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She enjoyed crafts of all types, but especially sewing and quilting for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping and playing pinochle with family and friends, especially the monthly Card Club.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, she is survived by three sons, David Scott Reynolds of Sikeston, Howard Douglas Reynolds of Tupelo, Miss., Randy Lee Reynolds of Nashua, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Robert Samuel of Memphis, Tenn., Matthew and Kathryn of Nashua, Addie Marie of Tupelo, Jacob Scott, Christian Eli and Zachary Seth, all of Sikeston; five sisters, Betty Myer, Marjorie Grindstaff and Evelyn Puls, all of Jackson, Mildred Finley of San Diego, Calif., and Doris Williamson of St. Louis.

A son, Robert Lynn Reynolds, and a brother, Jimmie Birk, preceded her in death.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church in Sikeston. The Rev. A.J. Wollenburg, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.
