Richelmann, Viola Clara (nee Goehring)

Viola Clara Richelmann, 100, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born July 18, 1910, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Otto and Alma Hemmann Goehring. Viola and Walter C. Richelmann were married June 1, 1935, in St. Louis. He passed away Nov. 5, 1987.

Viola was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She attended Trinity Lutheran School and was a 1928 graduate of Central High School.

After her marriage she and Walter were members of Emmaus Lutheran Church in St. Louis many years. In 1956 they became charter members of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Sappington, Mo., where she taught Sunday school and was active in many other church organizations including the Lutheran Orphanage (now known as Lutheran Family and Children's Services) in Des Peres, Mo.

Viola worked in the office of the former Western Textile Co. in St. Louis a number of years. Following Walter's death she moved to Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and became a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and in 1995 she returned to Cape Girardeau where she rejoined Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Goehring; and two sisters, Flora Suedekum and Dorothy Willer.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wine Hill, Ill.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran School Building Fund, Saxony Lutheran High School Building Fund or Lutheran Family and Children's Services.
