Rife, Harold E.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Harold E. Rife, 73, of 1784 White Pine Drive, died Friday, Nov. 29, 1996, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born April 5, 1923, in Letterkenny Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Jacob E. and Florence Dice Rife.

He was a 1941 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He was employed for 19 years by the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg. In the early 1960s he and his wife established Rolling Acres Mobile Homes Park near St. Thomas, Pa., which they operated until they retired in 1978.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

He was a member of Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg.

He was a life member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1509 VFW, Chambersburg; Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, Chambersburg; Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion, St. Thomas, where he was a member of the Honor Guard, and the Last Man's Club of World War II Veterans. He also was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 800, Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Joan M. Mickey Rife, whom he married March 12, 1949; one son, H. Eugene Rife of Chambersburg; one brother, Richard D. Rife of Camp Hill, Pa.; and three granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Statler in 1986.

Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Air Hill Brethren Christ Church, 7041 Cumberland Highway, Chambersburg. The Rev. John L. Bundy will officiate. Burial with military graveside services by members of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

Memorial donations may be made to Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church, 7041 Cumberland Highway or to the American Cancer Society 452 East King St., both of Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
