Sample, Mable E. (nee Baker)

PATTON, Mo. -- Mable E. Sample, 89, of Patton died Sunday, May 20, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Nov. 6, 1917, in Sedgewickville, Mo., daughter of the Rev. Charles R. and Mary Bell Baker. She and Charles David Sample were married May 6, 1939, in Benton, Mo. He died Nov. 29, 1992.

Sample was a teacher several years at Patton School, Marble Hill School and Meadow Heights School, and was a counselor at Ritenour High School in Overland, Mo.

She was a lifelong member of Patton Presbyterian Church, member of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge in Fredericktown, Mo., DAR, Ladies Presbyterian Circle and Thursday Literary Club in Jackson.

Survivors include two sons, David Sample of Patton, Ed Sample of Athens, Ala.; a daughter, Laura Inman of Patton; two sisters, Ethel Baker of Patton, Thelma Stone of Chaffee, Mo.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Patton, and from noon to service time Wednesday at Patton Presbyterian Church. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today by Lodge 305 of Millersville.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Patton Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Tisha Munday and Clark McIntosh officiating. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery.
