Sander, Barry Paul

Barry Paul Sander, 48, of Jackson passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, as the result of an automobile accident in Perry County, Missouri.

He was born Aug. 17, 1966, in London, to Mark and Brenda Saville Sander. He and Phyllis Jean Propst were married Aug. 11, 1989, at Cape County Park in Cape Girardeau.

Barry was a 1984 graduate of Kelly High School at Benton, Missouri.

At age 17 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably from June 13, 1984, to Oct. 14, 1987.

Barry earned a respiratory therapy certification from Hannibal-LaGrange University in 1992 and later an associate degree from Shawnee Community College. Barry was currently a supervisor of cardiology and EEG (electroencephalgraphics) at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. He had previously worked at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau and Audrain Memorial Hospital in Mexico, Missouri.

He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. He loved cycling and was a member of Velo Girardeau Cycling Club in Cape Girardeau and Cape Girardeau Bicycle Race Team.

Loving survivors include his wife of 25 years, Phyllis of Jackson; two children, Melissa (Ross) Nesbit of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Mason Sander of Jackson; two granddaughters, Cadence and Carsen Nesbit; his parents, Mark and Brenda Sander of New Hamburg, Missouri; a brother, Craig Sander of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Jenine (Josh) Choate of Scott City; and two nieces, Alexius Sander and Breahnna Choate.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Israel officiating.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to New McKendree United Methodist Church or Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis and Friends of Wyatt.
