Sander, Mary Joyce (nee Turner)

Mary Joyce Sander, 67, of Millersville passed away Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 4, 1937, in Winfield, Mo., daughter of Elva and Maude Gallup Turner. She and the Rev. Donald Sander were married March 21, 1953, in Millersville.

A dedicated mother and homemaker, Mary Joyce worked briefly for the former Jackson Variety Store. Mary Joyce was active in the WMS at Union Light Congregational Methodist Church near Marquand, Mo., where her husband has been the pastor for many years.

Loving survivors include her husband; four daughters, Katherine (Bruce) Westcott of Cape Girardeau, Carol (Steve) Hurte of North Augusta, S.C., Cheryl (Paul) Fortner of Gordonville, Mary Dawn Hunt of Millersville; three sons, Mark (Vicki) Sander of Marble Hill, Mo., Tim (Terri) Sander of Potosi, Mo., Scott (Sheila) Sander of Millersville; three brothers, Paul and Tom Turner of Farmington, Mo., and Don (Sharon) Turner of Jackson.

Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, Elizabeth Eudy, Megan and Drew Westcott, Becky and Katie Hurte, James and Aaron Fortner, Kenny Mayberry, Timothy Sander, Kristi Sander, Matt, Justin and Kelsie Mills, Austin and Madison Sander, Kristen, Brandon and Amber Hunt; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Taylor Mayberry.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Autumn Sander.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Visitation will continue Tuesday after 5 p.m. at Union Light Congregational Methodist Church near Marquand, with a tribute service at 7 p.m.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Haynes Chapel Congregational Methodist Church, with funeral service at 10 a.m. and burial in the church cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Union Light Congregational Methodist Church or Haynes Chapel Congregational Methodist Church.
