Scharenborg, Martin J.
Wilfrid J. "Bill" Scharenborg, 76, of Jackson died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 11, 1934, son of John and Frances VanGennip Scharenborg. He and Kay Seibel were married June 1, 1963. She died June 7, 2007.
Bill was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. He formerly worked at International Shoe Factory, Bunny Bread, Pocahontas Meat and Save-A-Lot. He enjoyed his volunteer work with Boy Scouts of America as a troop leader and was a member of Order of the Arrow.
He served in Missouri National Guard from 1951 to 1954 and the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958.
Survivors include a son, Chris Scharenborg; and a daughter, Becky Amelunke of Jackson; a granddaughter, Christina; four brothers, Everett (Bernice) Scharenborg of Jackson, Martin (Connie) Scharenborg of Cape Girardeau, John (Kathryn) and Joseph Scharenborg of Jackson; three sisters, Eleanor and Frances Scharenborg of Jackson, Mary (Arthur) Shuermann of St. Louis; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Jerome Scharenborg.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 7.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with Deacon Walt Biri officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Scharenborg family, Boy Scouts of America (SEMO Council) or American Heart Association.
