Schlegel, Norbert Robert
Norbert Robert Schlegel, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at the Missouri Veteran's Home.
He was born March 8, 1921, in Cape Girardeau County, son of George and Emma (Grossheider) Schlegel.
He and Viola M. Exler were married June 24, 1951, in Egypt Mills, Mo. She died April 26, 2007.
Mr. Schlegel served in the U.S. Army from April 19, 1946, to May 21, 1947.
He worked many years at Wides Oil Co. and Huckstep Oil Co., retiring in 1999.
He was a former Cape Girardeau auxiliary police officer and former member of Cape Girardeau REACT.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen (Gary) Garner of Cape Girardeau; a son, Darrel (Joy) Schlegel of Egypt Mills; five grandchildren, Ben Schlegel, Cassandra and Sid Miller, Emily Schlegel, James Park and Crystal Garner, all of Cape Girardeau; and a great-grandchild, Kimberly Seabaugh of Scott City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Viola Schlegel; daughter, Sharon Park; brother, Herbert Schlegel; and sisters, Della Ford and Lydia Seabaugh.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating.
Burial will be at Egypt Mills Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery with full military honors by the Missouri Honors Team.
