Schubert, Richard Edwin

Richard Edwin Schubert, 67, of Jackson passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at his home.

He was born July 14, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, son of Walter and Vivian Schamburg Schubert. He and Audrey Schlimpert were married April 19, 1969, in Altenburg, Missouri.

Richard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Longtown, Missouri, serving in various capacities in both churches.

He was inducted into the United States Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1968. During his military career, he was stationed in Vietnam, where he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals and a Purple Heart Medal in the 1st Infantry Division, "Big Red One."

He worked at the former Lenco in Jackson and retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years service. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 4282 and American Legion Post 133 in Perryville.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, farming, hunting and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Loving survivors include his wife of 45 years, Audrey; six children, Renee (Jerome) Wachter of Chelsea, Alabama, John (Joy) Schubert of Acworth, Georgia, Anita (Jeff) Claridge of Round Rock, Texas, Rachel (Jerry) Broshuis and Jacob (Sarah) Schubert of Jackson, and Andrea (TJ) Southard of Perryville, Missouri; a brother, Albert Schubert of Perryville; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 3 to 7:05 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery at Longtown, with full military honors.

McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church General Fund or Hope Seeds.
