Seyer, Marcus "Mark" J.

Marcus J. "Mark" Seyer, 89, of East Cape Girardeau, Ill., died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Jonesboro Health Center.

He was born April 20, 1916, at Kelso, Mo., son of Joseph J. and Pauline Dohogne Seyer. He and Marcella Goetz Ponder were married June 8, 1952, in Cape Girardeau.

Seyer worked many years with his father at the former Joe J. Seyer Trucking and Livestock Feed Lot and Sales in Cape Girardeau. He worked for the former Elfrink Truck Lines from 1965 to 1986 and for VIP Industries from 1986 to 1996.

He helped establish Cape Tigers baseball team. He served as an umpire many years, and was inducted into the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife; four brothers, Oscar Seyer of Jackson, the Rev. James Seyer, Vincent and Joseph Seyer, all of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Irma Lappe of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Mary Ponder Wyss of University City, Mo.; and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Parish prayers will be at 7 tonight.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. James Seyer officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
