Seyer, Oscar William
Oscar William Seyer, 91, of Jackson died Friday, Jan, 21, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born July 3, 1919, in Kelso, Mo., to Joseph J. and Pauline Dohogne Seyer.
He and Dorothy Elfrink were married May 21, 1953, at Chaffee, Mo.
Oscar served in the Army during World War II. He was stationed at San Diego two years, and was a replacement for D-Day troops in Normandy. He fought in Normandy, Central Europe, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and Northern France. He received five Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.
He was a carpenter at Southeast Missouri State University for 30 years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Seyer of Jackson; son, Rick (Kim) Seyer of Sarasota, Fla; daughter, Donna Mirly of Springfield, Mo.; three brothers, the Rev. James Seyer, Vincent (Louise) Seyer, Joseph (Frieda) Seyer, all of Cape Girardeau; sister-in-law, Marcella Seyer of East Cape Girardeau, Ill.; five grandchildren, Cassandra, Chelsea, Christopher Mirly, Reagan and Alexis Seyer; son-in-law, Rodney Mirly of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Thomas, Brother Clarence, the Rev. Francis, Mark Seyer; four sisters, Sister Adelma Seyer, Sister Clovis Seyer, Irma Lappe, Delphine Longinette.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish Prayers will be at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The funeral will be at noon Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. James Seyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
