Seylar, John H.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - John H. Seylar, 64, of 444 E. Madison St., died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, from injuries received in a traffic accident in Montgomery Township, Pa.

Born Feb. 8, 1932, near Greencastle, he was the son of the late H. Stanley and Ruth L. Ommert Seylar.

He was a 1950 graduate of Greencastle High School.

He retired in 1992 after 42 years with Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro, where he was a machinist and later a supervisor.

Early in life he farmed. He also owned Seylar's Sales and Service.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Greencastle, where he was assistant superintendent of the Sunday school for many years, and received awards for many years of perfect attendance in Sunday school.

He was a member of National AARP.

He enjoyed antique tractors.

He is survived by his wife, Mary K. Cunningham Seylar, whom he married March 5, 1955; three daughters, Susan S. Stevens, Kathy D. Statler and Karen E. Seylar, all of Greencastle; one son, Steven J. Seylar of Greencastle; two sisters, Mildred Sweigert of St. Thomas, Pa., and Grace Gearhart of Shady Grove, Pa.; three brothers, Robert Seylar and Ralph Seylar, both of Chambersburg, and Jay Seylar of Greencastle; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Rosaline Byers.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. David Armstrong and the Rev. Michael Newman will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the memorial fund of First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
