Shell, David Winchester

D. W. Shell, an old and highly respected citizen passed away at about the hour of 4 o'clock on the  evening of December 26, 1923, at his home near Arab.   He was born near Lutesville, December 1, 1846, and at the time of his death he was 77 years and 5 days old.

In the year 1868 he was married to Mary S. Collins and to this union were born 7 children: Mrs. J. H. Best of Forest, IL; Mrs. W. S. Davault and Mrs. E. H. Dellinger of Lutesville, Noah Shell and Mrs. James Hammack of Arab; and 2 daughters Sadie and Maggie who died several years ago.

At the age of 20 he professes faith in Christ and united with Slyvan Baptist Church, but on moving to Wayne County united with the Brush Creek Baptist Church, in which he lived a devoted Christian life until his death.

In the passing away of Grandpa Shell, as he was known by all, the community has lost a good citizen, the church a deoted member, the children a kind and loving father. On Saturday December 8, funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Stratman, after which his body was laid to rest by his companion who died 18 years ago.

How beautiful was the life of Grandpa Shell, how peaceful and triumphant his death. We shall miss him, yet we weep not as those who have no hope.
