Shrum, Cecil C.

Cecil C. Shrum, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 16, 1920, in Drum, Mo., to Simon Jessie and Stella Frances Tinnin Shrum. He and Mattie LaNora Hunter were married March 28, 1948, at Steele, Mo.

Cecil served in the U.S. Army and was a staff sergeant in World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 3838.

Mr. Shrum worked for Ford Groves as an auto mechanic for 37 years before retiring in 1982. He enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie LaNora Shrum; a son, Jim (Ruth) Shrum; daughters Phyllis (Kenny) La Mar and Pam East, all of Cape Girardeau, and daughter Lisa Shrum, of St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Bill Shrum of St. Louis; a sister, Frieda Engler of Oak Ridge; a granddaughter, Amanda Shrum; four grandsons, Joshua La Mar, Kyle East, Nathan East and Erik East; five great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law and a granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Frank Burgess officiating.

Burial will be at noon Wednesday in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo., with full military rite by the Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to Arthritis Foundation.
