Shrum, Donald Lee

Donald Lee Shrum, 57, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev.

He was born Jan. 20, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, son of Milton and Virginia Ridings Shrum. He and Phyllis Aaron were married Sept. 21, 1983, in Cape Girardeau.

Don founded Cape Outfitters as a hobby and built it to be one of the most respected international firearms dealers.

He was a member of Collectors Arms Dealers Association, Safari Club International, NRA and all other national and international organizations supporting wildlife and big game. He was an avid boater. He was well respected in international circles for his knowledge of sporting firearms as shown by the many articles written about him.

Don was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; his father of Cape Girardeau; a stepson and wife, Michael and Maria Rollins of Kansas City, Mo.; a stepdaughter and husband, Katherine and Robert Boitnott of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Kenneth Shrum of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and a grandson, Connor Boitnott of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Dr. Clayton Smith and the Rev. Jim Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Paul Crosnoe, Matt Unterreiner, Steve Laxton, Bill Ogborn, Sam Drusch, Robert Boitnott, Jonathan Jones, Don Denny, Keith Camarato and Jeff Mayfield.

Memorials may be made to Maple United Methodist Church or American Heart Association.
