Sides, Charles "Junior"

Charles "Junior" Sides, 78, of Leemon died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 28, 1926, near Leemon, son of Charles F. and Dora Trickey Sides. He and Eva "Louise" Stanley were married Aug. 31, 1943, at Benton, Mo. She died May 25, 1988.

He served in the U.S. Army from January 1945 to August 1946, receiving the Victory Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Army of Occupation of Japan and the Good Conduct Medal.

He worked as a carpenter, river man and head miller at the former Leemon Sawmill, and also worked for the former Litz Poultry Plant in Jackson. He farmed all his life near Leemon until his retirement in 1990.

Survivors include six sons, Gary, Lynn, Stephen, Terry and Marcus Sides, all of Jackson, David Sides of Burleson, Texas; four daughters, Donna Aufdenberg of Burfordville, Geta Parker and Gaye Smith, both of Jackson, Nina Dickerson of Millersville; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, two sisters and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Apple Creek Cemetery near Pocahontas with graveside military honors.
