Slinkard, Norman Earl

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Norman Earl Slinkard, 73, of Marble Hill died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 1, 1939, in Cape Girardeau, son of William Arthur and Eula Norma Walker Slinkard. He and Barbara Jean Cobb were married June 27, 1958. She died Jan. 10, 1997. He and Elta Eula Nanney were married Jan. 28, 1968. She died Aug. 5, 1974. He and his companion, Sandra Jean Horton, were together 23 years.

Mr. Slinkard farmed with his father from an early age. His first job was with the 7-UP Co. He also worked at Superior Electric in Cape Girardeau, and in 1969 he began his own businesses in Marble Hill, Slinkard's Gas Mart, Slinkard's Wrecker Service and Slinkard's Oil Co. He retired in 2005 and resumed his passion of farming.

Survivors include two sons, Roger (Tracy) Slinkard of Advance, Mo., and Paul Slinkard; two daughters, Cheri (Joe) Moll of Advance and Sueann Slinkard; a stepson, Donnie Nanney of Leopold, Mo.; a brother, Charles Slinkard of Jackson; two nephews, Brian (Christi) Slinkard and Jeffrey Slinkard of Jackson; and four grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Autumn and William Slinkard. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Joyce.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery.
