Smith, Vernon Dayton
Vernon Dayton Smith, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Allenville, to Arthur Verni and Clola Idell Ramsey Smith. He and Mary F. Timbs were married Nov. 20, 1948.
Vernon worked for Steimle Brothers Painting and later was a self-employed painter.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Francis Smith of Cape Girardeau; three sons, V. Bradley (Angie) Smith of Rockford, Illinois, Randal K. (Lisa) Smith and Jeff A. (Lisa) Smith of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Shawn Wasson officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
