Spane, Azalea Beatrice (nee Limbaugh)
FARMINGTON, Mo. — Azalea Beatrice Limbaugh Spane, a resident of Presbyterian Manor of Farmington, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2008, at the age of 86.
She was born July 9, 1921, to Arthur B. Limbaugh and Willie Mae Moore Limbaugh. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ruthford Limbaugh, Delta Limbaugh, Joe Limbaugh, Isadore Limbaugh; and two sisters, Ruth Limbaugh and Mae Sander.
Azalea was the loving and devoted wife of Truman David Spane. They met one another in Bell City, Mo., where their families had farms. Truman and Azalea were married in 1943 in Florida while Truman was in the Navy. Azalea was a homemaker and took great pride in caring for their four children. Cooking good family dinners and making pies were her specialties. She also worked with Truman, Dave and Janice on a pick-your-own-strawberry farm just outside Farmington. We'll always remember those wonderful strawberries Azalea loved to pick. She loved picking the fullest box and would continue picking long after everyone else was finished.
Azalea was a member of the United Methodist Church of Park Hills, Mo. As her health began to fail, she really missed going to church. She thought the world of pastor Eddie Bone and loved his visits and prayers.
Azalea is survived by her loving husband, Truman Spane; three daughters, Sue (Norman) Flood of Ballwin, Mo., Judy Epple of Mehlville, Mo., Cathy (Bill) Massie of Farmington; one son, Dave (Janice) Spane of Farmington; five grandchildren, Aaron Flood, Renee Ostendorf, Mike Reese, Amanda (Joey) Hutchinson and Jenna Spane; stepgrandchildren, Ann and Julie Massie, David Wofford Jr.; great-grandchildren, Brian and Melanie Ostendorf; one sister-in-law, Pearline Wagoner of Perkins; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Having spent her final months in Presbyterian Manor, Azalea came to love her devoted nurses and aides as her extended family. Their loving care and concern meant so much to her and her family.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. June 7, 2008, at Horton-Wampler Funeral Home in Park Hills.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, with pastor Bone officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Park Hills or Presbyterian Hospice of Farmington.
