Statler, J. Donald

J. Donald Statler, 75, of Belmont died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born May 12, 1930, in Harrison County, W.Va., the only son of the late Andrew J. and Ida C. (Tennant) Statler. He was a 1947 graduate of Shinnston High School, Shinnston, W.Va. He was retired from Union Carbide Corp. and the U.S. Postal Service. He previously worked as a conservation officer in Wood County. He enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, hunting and working on his farm. He was an avid NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Leeson Statler; two daughters, Darlene Hammett of Belmont and Sue Statler of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Andy Statler and his fiancee, Martha McCale, of Williamstown and Brad Statler and his wife, Joyce, of Belmont; eight grandchildren, Lynne Ballard of Belmont, Laura Rauch of Columbus, Ohio, Amy Dicochea of Tucson, Megan Statler of Oakton, Va., Matt and Aaron Statler of St. Marys, Sam Statler of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Kari Statler of Belmont; five great-grandchildren, Annie Rauch, Lici and R. J. Dicochea and Joel and Will Ballard; one uncle, Roy Tennant and his wife, Virginia, of St. Marys; his best friend and brother-in-law, Junior Saunders of Vienna; former daughter-in-law, Kim Statler of St. Marys; and son-in-law, George Hammett of Williamstown.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Willow Island Cemetery, Willow Island, with the Rev. Kenneth Calebaugh officiating. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys.
