Statler, Marie (nee DeWitt)

Marie Statler, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at her home.

She was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Iron County, Mo., daughter of Robert and Ida May Trout DeWitt. She and Elsworth "Woody" Statler were married Nov. 27, 1944, in Blytheville, Ark.

Marie moved to Cape Girardeau in 1944 from Blytheville. She worked at International Shoe Co. and Florsheim Shoe Manufacturing 35 years. She had been a union steward and was a life member of VFW Post 3838 Auxiliary. She was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Lisa Magers of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Charles DeWitt of Covington, La., Floyd Paul DeWitt of Naylor, Mo., W.L. DeWitt of Fort Smith, Ark.; three sisters, Mrs. Goldie Gryner of Fort Smith, Mrs. Edna Perrilloux of Folsom, La., Mrs. Sylvia Atwood of Naylor; three grandchildren, Christopher Magers, Austin Martin and Christopher Martin of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Elsworth W. Statler Jr. in 1964; a brother; and a sister.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lee Roy Quinn officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
