Steck, Charles Wilson

Charles W. Steck, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at The Lutheran Home.

He was born May 2, 1919, in Jackson to Charles F. and Clara Milde Steck.

He and Bernice Willer were married July 14, 1955, at Jackson. She died on Dec. 31, 2006.

Charles graduated from Jackson High School and Southeast Missouri State University. He also earned a master's degree in education from the University of Missouri.

He was an industrial arts teacher 40 years in the Cape Girardeau public school system.

He was a very active member of Grace United Methodist Church. He sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Jackson. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, James (Ginger) Steck of Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Elizabeth (Doug) Hileman of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Betty Holley of Ellisville, Mo.; four grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Hileman of Cape Girardeau and Arielle and Daniel Steck of Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Milde Steck; and sister, Lucille Edymann.

Friends may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Sullenger officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Grace United Methodist Church Foundation.
