PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Esmond Joseph "Essie" Steele, 80, of Perryville died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at his home.

Esmond Joseph "Essie" Steele, 80, of Perryville died April 10, 2014 at his residence in Perryville, MO.
He was born January 10, 1934 in Perryville, MO, son of Lenita (Steele) Holtzclaw. He and Betty McCarthy were married June 28, 1958. She preceded him in death on October 12, 2012.
Esmond had worked for Gilster Mary-Lee in maintenance and Dan’s Auto Body. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, in Sereno, and American Legion Booster Post 133.
Survivors include six daughters and one son, Mary Steele, Anne (Morris) Holmes, Daniel (Donna) Steele, Lori (Brian) Villmer, Melissa Steele (Jerry) Lufcy, Joan Steele, all of Perryville, Lisa Haycraft of Tamaroa, IL; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13 at Young & Sons Funeral Home in Perryville from 4:00 to 9:00 pm with parish wake at 7:00 pm. Visitation continues on Monday, April 14 from 6:30 to 9:20 am. He will then be taken to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sereno for Mass at 10:00 am with Rev. Milton Ryan CM officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to St. Vincent Food Pantry.
