Stone, Leon Edward

Leon Edward Stone, 85, of Jackson died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Jackson Manor, where he was for the last four days.

He was born May 10, 1918, at Lutesville, Mo., son of Hessie Edward and Blanche Edith Conrad Stone. He and Edna Mae Heatley were married Aug. 23, 1938. She preceded him in death July 26, 1985.

Leon served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Oak Ridge Masonic Lodge, and VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.

He was a meat processor 22 years at Pipkin-Boyd-Neal Packing Co. in Cape Girardeau until the plant closed. He worked at Central Packing Co. in Cape Girardeau two years before retiring. He was also a lifelong farmer.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Garry and Paulette Stone Sr. of Jackson, Larry Stone of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Bill Stone of Millersville, Donnie Stone of Daisy, Roy Lee Stone of Cape Girardeau, Jack Stone of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Velma Dobbs of Chaffee, Mo., and Wanda Lee Sparks of Jackson.

Also nine grandchildren, Garry (Chris) Stone Jr., Tony (Heidi) Stone, Tim (Becky) Stone, Jeff (Bobbi) Stone, all of Jackson, Joey (Christina) Stone of Bruceton Mills, W.Va., Stacy Stone of Sedgewick-ville, Debbie (Rick) Casper of Thebes, Ill., Richie Stone of Indiana, Barry Stone of Scott City; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tarry Stone, and two brothers.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery at Chaffee, with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Garry Stone Jr., Tony Stone, Tim Stone, Jeff Stone, Joey Stone and Stacy Stone.
