Strack, Vernon E. "Bud"

Vernon E. "Bud" Strack, 84, of Jackson passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, at his home.

He was born April 8, 1930, in Cape Girardeau County, son of Edwin Albert and Thelma Cottle Strack. He was baptized into Hanover Lutheran church.

Bud graduated from Jackson High School in 1947 and was married to Betty J. Morton on Aug. 27, 1949. They were married 65 years.

He founded Strack Brothers Construction Co. His brothers joined him and he became sole owner again in 1974. He was a charter member of the Cape County Builder Association. Bud retired in 1987.

Moving his membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in the '40s, Bud served as an usher and a member of the church stewardship committee.

As a member of the Jackson Optimist Club, Bud served as president and achieved lifetime membership. During his membership, he had perfect attendance for 32 years.

An accomplished woodworker, Bud crafted furniture for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling and square dancing.

Bud is lovingly survived by his wife, Betty; a brother, Kenneth Strack (Stella Mae Meyer); sons Terry L. Strack (Sharyn Stover) and Michael M. Strack (Velda Thomas) of Jackson; and grandchildren Ryan N. Strack (Tabetha Dearing) of Owings, Maryland, Sarah E. Goodwin (Mike Goodwin) and Jennifer Williams of Jackson. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Julia Williams, Jeffrey Williams, Sawyer Goodwin, Whitney Goodwin and Sylas Strack.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob Strack.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
