Stratton, Walter Lee

Walter Lee Stratton, 80, of Jackson passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Marble Hill, Mo., son of Willie L. and Pearl M. Eaker Stratton. He and Anna Laura Wallmann were married June 28, 1974. She survives.

Walter worked at the former shoe factory at Marble Hill and then the former International Shoe Factory of Jackson until 1989. In 1990 he began work for the Lutheran Home in the maintenance department until retiring 1997. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church of Gordonville for more than 30 years. Walter loved gardening and doing his yardwork. He never met a stranger and was known in Jackson as "Waving Walter." He loved cats, especially his pet cat, Toby.

In addition to his loving wife, survivors include a daughter, Tammy (James) Barlow of Delta; a sister, Virginia (Dan) Cashion of Benton, Mo.; a grandson, Jared Barlow of Delta; three nephews, Todd (Patricia) Williams, Randy Williams and Scott (Tasha) Williams; four great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Shayden, Destinee and Cameron.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Christ Lutheran Church of Gordonville.
