Stroder, Henry Eugene "Gene"

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Henry "Gene" Stroder, 87, of Chaffee died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 21, 1925 at Cape Girardeau to William Gale and Ruth Slinkard Stroder. He and Gladys Baker were married Aug. 28, 1947, at Allenville. Gene was a graduate of Delta High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Cape Girardeau. He loved to garden. Upon retirement, Gene and Gladys traveled all across the country. He was a member of VFW Post 3838.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Stroder of Chaffee; two sons, Martin Eugene Stroder (Susan) of Kelso, Mo., and Mitchell William Stroder (Cathy) of Cape Girardeau; a brother, William Gale Stroder Jr. (Ann) of Fairdealing, Mo.; a sister, Norma Jean Wessell (George, deceased) of Jackson; three grandchildren, Matthew Stroder (Angelica), Michelle Armbruster (Glenn) and Richard Stroder; and a great-grandchild, Kairi Dawn Armbruster.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Apple Creek Cemetery in Pocahontas.
