Stroder, Roy Weldon

Roy Weldon Stroder, 79, of Jackson died Monday, March 26, 2012, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 18, 1932, at Crump, to Elmer Dale and Grace Alene Hosea Stroder. Roy married Verla Mae Roe on Aug. 1, 1952. She died March 16, 2005. Roy and Joann Bollinger were married Sept. 9, 2009.

Roy served in the U.S. Army from March 5, 1953, to March 4, 1955.

He received his GED in 1982 from Woodland High School. He owned and operated Stroder Masonry from 1960 to 1982. He then worked for World Color Press in Mount Vernon, Ill., from 1982 to 1991. In 1992 Roy and his brother, Harold, opened Stroder Country in Jackson.

Roy was a member of Sedgewickville United Methodist Church and Jackson Trail Riders Club.

Survivors include his wife, Joann of Jackson; a son, Rick Stroder of Liberty, Mo.; two daughters, Connie (Mike) Brothers of Jackson, Gayle (Steve) Leuschke of Effingham, Ill.; three stepsons, Steve (Martha) Bollinger of Durham, N.C., Sid (Lee) Bollinger of Sedgewickville, Mo., Rick (Linda) Kremer of Jackson; four brothers, W.D. Stroder of Crump, Shelby Stroder of Sedgewickville, Harold Stroder of Jackson, Franklin MacArthur Stroder of St. Libory, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Amy and Abbey Stroder, Jason and Jamie Brothers, Brandi Gant, Tyler Leuschke and Taryn Rohr; eight great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Keira, Kyndal, Balin, Rylan Brothers, Drew Gant, Kalli Stroder and Kaden Rohr; eight stepgrandchildren; and 12 great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard, and two sisters, Gertrude and Roxie.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home, and from noon to service time Thursday at Sedgewickville United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Revs. Greg Dowler and Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to Sedgewickville United Methodist Church or to macular degeneration research.
