Summers, Lloyd R.

Lloyd R. Summers, 87, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 3, 1923, near Millersville, son of Boyd and Bertha Sanders Summers Sr. He and Wilma E. Hahn were married April 21, 1944, in Osceola, Ark.

Lloyd worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Chaffee, Mo., and Cape Girardeau from 1940 to 1986, retiring as a cutting room supervisor. He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson more than 50 years, and was a member of Fellowship Sunday school class. Lloyd also served on the church administration board, board of trustees and was an usher many years.

He enjoyed watching birds and animals, flower gardening and vegetable gardening, often sharing the produce from his garden with friends, neighbors and church mission projects.

Loving survivors include his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Marilyn (Wayne) Fronabarger of Oak Ridge; two grandchildren, Darin Fronabarger of Oak Ridge, Kelly (Jonathan) Tucker of Jackson; a brother, Boyd (Juanita) Summers of Jackson; four sisters, Virginia (Quentin) Felty of Millersville, Bertha (the late Wilbert) Haupt, Winiford (Ralph) Dumey and Elvira (Gilbert) Urhahn; a brother-in-law, Johnny (Joan) Hahn; and a sister-in-law, Lela Hutson, all of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. John Rice and Jimmie Corbin officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
