Svoboda, Verna June (nee Fulbright)

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- Verna June Svoboda, 95, of Carson City passed away peacefully Saturday, July 12, 2014, at home.

She was born April 26, 1919, at Millersville, one of five daughters to Grover Cleveland and Dona Thaxton Fulbright.

Verna graduated from Jackson High School. She was a hairdresser in Jackson and in San Diego, until in 1943, when she met and married her husband of nearly 71 years, George Svoboda.

They lived in a number of cities including Berwyn, Illinois, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bethany and Edmond, Oklahoma, Sun City West, Arizona, and Carson City. All of her life she longed for the palm trees, and in 1983 she and George retired to Arizona and spent their time living in the desert and golfing. She grew up in and attended the Methodist church all her life. She was a very loving person to all she met, with her final words being "I love you."

Survivors include her husband, George Svoboda; a son, Mark Svoboda; daughter-in-law, Julie Svoboda; and a grandson, Tanner Svoboda.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Mildred Luetje, Betty Mehrle, twin sister Jean Niswonger and Mary Lou Grant.

A service will be at a later date

FitzHenry Funeral Home in Carson City was in charge of arrangements.

A graveside service for Verna June Svoboda of Carson City, Nevada, formerly of Jackson, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Old Salem Cemetery in Millersville.

Verna, 95, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at home.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home in Carson City is in charge of arrangements.
