Talley, Willard E.

Funeral service for Willard E. Talley of Jackson was held at 10 a.m., Sept. 20, 1996 at McCombs Funeral Chapel in Jackson, the Rev. Mark Anderson officiated, and burial was in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Mr. Talley, 86, died Sept. 17, 1996 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born April 27, 1910 near Jackson, a son of Walter B. and Flora Browning Talley. On March 2, 1929, he was married to Della Statler, who died April 23, 1981.

He engaged in farming in Bollinger and Cape Girardeau Counties from 1929 to 1957. The Talleys then moved to Jackson where he owned and operated Talley MFA Oil Company for 25 years, and also owned and operated Talley Ice Company. From 1980 to 1984, he was employed by the State of Missouri Department of Weights and Measures.

Mr. Talley was ordained a deacon at Millersville Baptist Church, and had served as a deacon at First Baptiest Church in Jackson. He was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church, Jackson, Gideons International, Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation, Million Dollar Club, and Mended Hearts Club at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Mr. Talley participated in Region 8 Senior Olympics at Poplar Bluff and won several awards. He was a past president of Jackson Senior Citizens group, and assisted in aquiring the Senior Center building.

Surviving are five sons, Donald Talley and Robert G. Talley of Cape Girardeau; Leon Talley of San Jose, CA; Dean Talley of Soldotna, AR, and Larry Talley of Fenton; two sisters, Mabel Seabaugh, and Helen Schnare of St. Charles; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and three great-stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
