Jimmy Lee Tankersley, age 67, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, March 01, 2014 as a result of injuries from an automobile accident.

He was born September 15, 1946, in Painton, MO, son of Earnest A. and Mildred Jewell Lincoln Tankersley. He and Vickie S. Welker were married July 5, 1969.

Jimmy attended Advance High School. He enlisted in the US Navy on Dec. 14, 1965 and was honorably discharged June 26, 1969. He had worked at the former Florsheim Shoe Company in Cape Girardeau, the former International Shoe Company in Jackson, and retired from the Parks and Recreation Department with the City of Cape Girardeau. Jimmy was a former member of the Covenant Christian Church in Fruitland and attended the Life Point Church in Jackson.

He enjoyed being with family, collecting items, gardening, fishing, and helping people in any way that he could.

Loving survivors include his wife Vickie of over 44 years; two daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Horrell and Christina Smith all of Jackson; one son Jimmy Lee (Angela) Tankersley II, of Millersville; five grandchildren, Shawn (Sharon) Smith, Chrissy Smith, Jimmy Lee Tankersley III, Jacob Tankersley and Jonathan Tankersley; one great granddaughter Ellie Smith; and one step grandson, Ray Smith.

Also surviving are four brothers and three sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bob Tankersley.

Friends may call Wednesday, March 5, from 4-8 pm, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 10 am, at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Culberson officiating and assisted by Danny Tankersley and Rev. John Ruedrich.

Interment will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemtery in Bloomfield, Mo with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
